The Mama Diaries

A new mom’s quest for suburban bliss.

one week down… June 20, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — jocelynfoster @ 4:29 am

This has been my first full week back to work. I have been working half days in the office and a few hours at home.

Not sure how I feel about it, seems it is harder to transition from work to mom mode – I might be better off working full days (same number of hours). We’ll see how it goes.

Sawyer seems to be doing well, enjoying the attention he receives from Grandma and the sitter in the mornings.

We had a fun playdate with Brooke yesterday. It is becoming lots of fun to watch the two of them play as they become more and more aware of each other. I think they like each other!

Weekend Report June 18, 2008

Al’s first Father’s Day weekend…

Al had a fun conclusion to his too short staycation. He was just beginning to really unwind and relax when the week was over.

Though not before a fun Father’s Day celebration!

Saturday was lunch with Grandma and Aunt Sarah and some pool time. We tried Sawyer in the deeper water in his float but he just wasn’t diggin’ it. He is all about walking in the baby pool.

Sunday Al slept in and then we headed once again to the community pool (this is the same community pool that Riley enjoys at the end of the season – see photo). This time we took our bikes and Sawyer enjoyed a ride in his bike trailer. It was his first time in the trailer, judging by his nap on the way home I think he was pretty comfy.

Julie, Matt and Brooke met us at the pool. Brooke enjoyed splashing in the water while Sawyer walked.

Dinner on the deck…and early to bed!

What’s Going On You Ask? June 14, 2008

Woops! Need to be careful what I wish for!

I have a JOB of all things! Started Thursday. Very good project work, with a very good company. A bit quicker than I had expected…

Testing the waters. So far, I like a half day, and coming home to the cutest kid ever.

Al is taking the week off, today’s adventure was the pool.

Sawyer LOVED walking the baby pool in his float!

What’s Going On With You? June 5, 2008

Arrgh. I dread that question. What to say? I’ve only changed 2 poopy diapers today…I’m patiently waiting on the 3rd?

I used to have lots of answers-status on my latest and greatest project, industry scoop, company gossip…talking about Trek’s new bike seems much more relevant than a few teeth and some early morning howling.

Of course I know what I am doing is important blah, blah, blah. If I could just figure out a really good answer to that simple question. Then, life would be grand.

Buckle ‘em Up…Correctly June 5, 2008

I recently switched Sawyer to a convertible car seat. When I did that I went to the local fire station and had the installation inspected by a cute and helpful fireman.

Did I mention he was cute?! Who said my job doesn’t have its perks!

I learned a few things -

The chest clip should be at the armpit/nipple level. It is designed to slide down during impact, failures occur when there is not enough room for it to slide down.

It is OK for Sawyer’s legs to rest on the backseat. During an impact his legs will not remain there, this does not increase his risk of leg injury.

I should keep Sawyer in rear-facing as long as possible – 1 year and 20 pounds is the MINIMUM. Most convertible seats have height and weight limits that allow rear-facing for much longer.

Sawyer and I have been spending time with new friends Julie and Brooke. Julie and I met through a new moms group.

Already Brooke is the cool kid. She was the first one to have a pool, she has 2 fuzzy cats Sawyer adores (less a few fistfuls of fur thanks to Sawyer), and she eats green vegetables. Doesn’t get much better.

I think Sawyer is quite smitten with Brooke, or he should be. She is a cutie!

The Revolving Door of Sitters has Begun June 3, 2008

Today our sitter informed me that she is moving. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she is moving to HAWAII!

I realize she is the first of many sitters to come and go. But, she was our first. She started with us when Sawyer was 3 months old, when I went back to work. At the time he wasn’t taking a bottle (never did) so she fed him with a syringe. She must have thought we were crazy.

I have been thankful. Thankful that Sawyer has had such a wonderful caregiver. Thankful that each time I come home I have a happy, rested baby to hug.

Now I must begin the search for a new sitter. Of course whoever the next very capable individual is, they will never be as good as our first.

Sigh.
